Tembok Barak Waterfall, Riverside Walk in the North of Bali Island

My last waterfall adventure is this Tembok Barak Waterfall. I have little time of holiday in my work and open google map to looking for some places that I took photograph. one of them is this Waterfall. This waterfall called Tembok Barak and I try to search in Balinesse language, Tembok means wall and Barak means red (color). so it is called as Red Wall Waterfall. Let me continue this writing by called as it's original name as Tembok Barak Waterfall. it is called as like that because I see there is some red - orange stone that consist of that waterfall. the waterfall it self flanked by stone wall. so that's answering why this waterfall called Tembok Barak Waterfall.

Location of Waterfall

The waterfall located in North of Bali Island, Buleleng Regency. Near to Singaraja City. so it is one of my recommended waterfall if you visiting Lovina Beach. I'll share this google map location by clicking this link below:

Location of Tembok Barak Waterfall --> Click for Location

I will tell you about the location that through a very small road. if you want to go to this waterfall, there are no Park for car because the road to the parking area just fit for man walk or motorcycle. if there are two motorcycle coming from opposite direction, another one must stop for a while and giving space to another. that was very small road to a waterfall. you will through somebody houses until the road cross and through rice field. in the end of the road, you will find the parking area. let me say it is motorcycle parking area.

as you see from the photograph above, there are so many falling leaves on the floor. no ticketing, no guarding or security, and as far as I see nobody else there. I think the waterfall was not visited for a quiet long time. after from this parking area, you will see stairs down to the river. it is a very long stairs, if you want to visit this waterfall, just bring the bottle, because the waterfall is not on the end of this stairs. in the end of the stairs, there is a hindu's temple. this place like a garden. but the river just a meter below the temple. after this temple, the road to waterfall continue about 500 m to the waterfall. I will explain the next road on the next section because it will make you think twice if you want to visiting this waterfall.

Riverside Walk to The Waterfall

after a long way down through the stairs and see a temple, there will a small path behind the temple. that path is a walk road to the waterfall. this is the interesting thing, we will walk along the left side of river (from downstream) through a small road. some places of the path are gone and you must in to the water for a while. so there is no chance your foot keep dry because this part literally force you walk in to the water. after a long walk in the river side with some bamboo bridge a long the road, finally you will see a red stone wall with a waterfall in the middle.

So, where is the thing that make you think twice if you visiting this waterfall? the answer is flood and warning system is not exist in this places. you need to see this section of photograph that I take and see the red line, that was called flood limit and it is about 1 or 2 meters above the water. with a straight wall on the side, there is no chance you will survive if a flood happen while you walk in this riverside with this flood high right?

But dont worry, flood only happen on the rainy season,  so I think you will be fine if come here on dry season (Indonesia is a tropical place, we only have two seasons) when the rainy season? read my post about what the best time to visit bali here:

No Swimming! For me, it is Dangerous

some tourist come to waterfall for natural swimming recreation. Bali is very hot especially the north side of Bali Island and swimming become so much enjoyable when the weather become too hot. some people that come to Bali or Indonesia not enjoy with the hot weather of this tropical island. although it is in rainy season, the hot weather is not 100% gone. and swimming is good for cooling down the body temperature.

but for safety reason, personally I am not recommended this waterfall as a place for natural swimming. first reason is there is no warning system and in rainy season, it become worst because of sudden flood can happen anytime. the second reason is you need to walk along the riverside and climb through the stairs of high valley if there is something happen to you. the evacuation route is not short and quite dangerous too. if a fatal situation happen to you, it will need a long time and long way to get help. that small path near the river is the only way you get evacuated.

there are a lot of waterfall that beautiful too such as Tirta Buana Waterfall, sekumpul waterfall, and many other places in north Bali that you can swim freely and safety. for this one? I think I can not give recommendation to you and it is not a good idea.

Waterfall Review

This waterfall is not high waterfall, but the red stone color quite amazing. in the dry season of visiting, I think it is very good waterfall to visit. you get the adventure, you get the fresh water, fresh air, and you get the nice photograph. the temple have a nice garden too. the minus things are safety clean. since I cannot find any management who organize this waterfall, everything become so dirty and not well-taken care. Maybe it was because Covid 19, I dont know, but overall my recommendation just to come to this waterfall in a right time of season. so you can enjoy it with safe and sound.
